we love and thank you.
It is not always easy to express your gratefulness in words. Yet, I want to give it a try with this newsletter. Exactly two years ago I wrote a proposal for the Technical University in Eindhoven with my wish to collaborate with a student to convert my intensive research to youth and sexuality into a product or service. Two students appeared, Joes and Manon. Together we have worked super hard to design a concept, the flowers of Kayamandi. A beautiful idea to make mothers and daughters communicate about menstruation, and to make them celebrate the first menstruation with a personal period soap. The idea was to make the project financially self sustainable and this same soap was going to make that work. In the Netherlands.
To come up with an idea is one thing, to execute it is a complete different thing. I had to step out of my comfort zone, being visible, asking people for help, learning to receive help, I learned about leadership and that taking the lead isn’t always painless. I have learned that people come and go, without loosing the love and gratitude for their contribution. I have learned to take decisions from my essence and dared to follow my intuition, every time again, even when decisions were difficult. It made me realize and experience that things only flow when I let my gut speak. At last I learned that to celebrate womanhood I first had to embrace my femininity, fully.
Often I thought of quitting, to walk away and turn around because I had the feeling that I couldn’t do it, that I wasn’t good enough or I questioned myself who I was to want this and to believe in this. Luckily you were there. Your support and mainly love and trust brought me back on track. The path to live She Blooms’ mission: creating open en connective communication on female sexuality to improve self-confidence, self-celebration and empowerment among women. And it still does. T H A N K S.
A special thank you goes to a few people, that contributed to make it possible to create the crowdfunding campaign, the beautiful period soaps, the period workshop and to train local trainers in Kayamandi. First I wanted to name the people but I got confused and afraid to forget someone. And in the end I felt that I didn’t want to create any order of rank. I hope you know that I am speaking of you and that you feel the same warmth I feel. It is special to me to experience that I can count and built on a warm and solid community. And know that receiving this email means that your support, love and spirit is intertwined in the period soap anyways 🙂
New ideas are already flowing through my body and soul. But first the next step to start selling the soap and making the website up and running. At the moment we are talking with possible stockists, we will be part of a very cool Christmas package, and you can order soap by sending us an email (at the moment we only ship in Holland).
If you have tried the soap, we would love to read your review, or via email, or via a reaction on Facebook.
Together we bloom!,
with love also from Nomajama, Gloria, Busisiswe, Beauty, Alicia and more South Africa women, and the She Blooms team,
